Good Eats in EVA : Bat-17

Hopefully my ongoing compilation of 'good eats' signifies my devotion and inherent interest in restaurants. I am tuned to sampling the menus, services, and all an eatery has to offer wherever I am, whatever meal, etc.

I finally tried a new(ish) restaurant in Evanston called Bat-17. My associations to it prior to actually experiencing it was that it served sandwiches and featured a bar.

Both of those were true, but Bat-17 attempts so much more than the above mentioned. It strives for too much one could say, but what's too much of a good thing? Bat-17 is original, unique, and although not perfect, far better than many national chain restaurants paying leases in Evanston.

Some unique characteristics of Bat-17:
-Side dishes with dinner: choice of cole-slaw, potato salad or chips (regular or BBQ) and a pickle
-a delicious late night menu (sliders, onion rings, nachos, julienne salad?, selection of sandwiches (their tradmark)
-all day breakfast featuring:
-the Batawat, their version of a breakfast sandwich served on a sourdough bread with a meat, eggs, etc, And:
-Free coffee with breakfast! They claim they are the pioneers of free coffee - I can't disagree

-Beer towers: 100oz of beer (Blue Moon last night):

Other pecularities about Bat-17 include a hot-sauce colection, a bakery, a home-made jams selection and christmas lights adorning the walls.

I ordered the double-deuce, a corned-beef and pastrami sandwich with swiss and muenster cheese and mustard on a pumpernickel bread. I chose cole-slaw as my side.

Max and Ben both ordered a jerk chicken sandwich that featured massive fractions of avacados, tomatos, lettuce and other trappings. Max also ordered cole-slaw while Ben chose the potatoe salad - delictable too.

Ben and I, not yet satiated, ordered a chocolate-chip cookie and a frosted oatmeal + cherry cookie respectively. Ben made the executive decision to have them heated up which was as smart as Barack's campaign.

Overall, Bat-17 is a more than welcome addition to Evanston's food and drink scene. I am very excited to go back and try their Balawat's for breakfast (or anytime of day) (almost went back this morning!).
